College Football September 5th

Off to a great start to the season at 8-1 so far. Aside from a clear swing and miss on San Jose State it was a perfect weekend. Obviously that can’t last all year, but runs like this are always fun. Just going to enjoy it as long as I can. As far as tonight goes…

Ole Miss (+6): As usual Florida State is loaded, nothing new there. There are future NFL players all over this roster, the defense should be great, and their RB Dalvin Cook might be the nations best. My only concern for this game (and it’s a big one) is Freshman QB Deondre Francois. Francois as you would imagine was very highly recruited and has tons of talent, tonight however will be his first college football action. He gets thrown right to the wolves against a borderline top 10 team, in primetime, on labor day, with everyone watching. I’m not saying he won’t be able to handle it, but there’s no denying it’s a big unknown and a huge question mark of how he can handle a scene this big. On the Ole Miss side they return QB Chad Kelly who has plenty of big game experience under his belt. Playing in the SEC he’s seen many big games, and even has a road win over Alabama to his name. Talent wise it’s to be determined if Francois can be better than Kelly, but experience wise there’s no comparison, and to me that matters quite a bit. Ole Miss did suffer some losses at RB and WR but they’ll have capable athletes ready to fill those holes, and with Kelly at the helm I think the offense remains solid. Defensively Ole Miss should be stout yet again as they return 6 starters on that side of the ball. Overall we should have an excellent game here, it’s just tough for me to pass on getting 6 points with the far more seasoned QB.
